Communication
Communication Guidelines
Clear and open communication is essential for a positive school culture. Parents are guided regarding communication with the school by two documents:
Online Communication
The school uses ‘Connect’, an online portal developed and maintained by the W.A Department of Education. Connect provides a secure, password protected on-line environment for school staff and parents. Only parents/carers of students enrolled at the school can access Connect.
A Library containing School Board Minutes, Policy documents, School Annual Reports and the School Business Plan is available in ‘Connect’.
School staff use Connect to send messages, post school and class notices, newsletters, photographs and other information to parents. There is a Connect App which provides notifications to parents.
Parent/Teacher Meetings
Parents may discuss their child’s progress, or any specific issue about their child, with the class teacher (or a specialist teacher) at any time during the year by making an appointment.
Formal parent/teacher interviews are held once a year, usually towards the end of Term One. Scheduled over an afternoon and evening, all class and specialist teachers are available in the School Hall for pre-booked appointments. Parents will be provided with details via Connect and the school newsletter ahead of the date.
Parents are also welcome to request a meeting with the Deputy Principals or the Principal via email or by calling the school office.
Other forms of Parent Contact
- Notes/emails concerning absences and minor classroom matters should be sent to the classroom teacher. Always cc daily absence notification emails to the office.
- Brief/minor matters can be discussed informally with a teacher at a mutually convenient time.
- An appointment for a parent interview can be made either directly with a teacher or via the office.
- Interpreting and translating services are accessible to support families who speak a language other than English
- Parents/carers will receive information for excursions/education visits through Consent2Go.
- Keeping student records updated is very important – please notify the office of any changes, especially to telephone numbers and email addresses.
Parent Handbook
The school provides a general parent handbook for all new families and information booklets for parents with students beginning Kindergarten or Pre-primary.
Find the Parent Handbook on our Publications & Policies page.
Student Mobile Phones and Devices with Connectivity
The Department of Education policy for mobile phones states that primary school students are not to have a phone in their possession at school. For the purposes of this policy, ‘mobile phones’ includes smart watches, other electronic communication devices, and associated listening accessories, such as, but not limited to, headphones and ear buds. All phones that are brought to school must be handed in at the office each morning and picked up at the end of the school day. Please assist the school to provide a safe environment for all students.
