Principal’s Message

As the Principal of South Perth Primary School, I feel very privileged to lead such a dynamic school with talented students, committed staff and supportive parents. Since my appointment in 2009, I have focused on furthering the implementation of whole school approaches to teaching and learning and fostering cohesion within the school community.

As an experienced educator, I see the development of the whole child as essential. Students need opportunities to:

  • Develop their academic, physical, creative, social and emotional skills.
  • Engage in the learning program.
  • Feel secure in the school environment and have a sense of belonging.
  • Develop a positive attitude towards learning and acquire the necessary skills to be independent, life-long learners.

Raising children has always been a complex task, but never more so than in today’s fast-paced, information-packed world. The traditional African proverb ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is even more relevant now than in the past.

It takes a village to raise a child.

To reach optimal educational outcomes for each student, it is essential that teachers and support staff work in partnership with families. Parents need to be confident that their child is being provided with a quality learning program in a safe and engaging environment, while teachers need support from the students’ families. Parents can assist by participating in school activities and fostering connections with the school community.

The school continues to plan and implement programs that focus on providing success for all students through quality teaching, strong leadership and robust partnerships.

As principal, my most important role is to support and encourage teachers, support staff and the school community to embrace challenges, implement evidence-based practice, and work together to provide the best possible opportunities for students.
