School Chaplain – Mrs Meng Chan

Meng is available to everyone in the school community.  Her role is to cultivate the personal and social wellbeing of students, their families and staff in need of social, emotional, mental, physical and spiritual support.  Examples of ways Meng supports us includes:

• helping resolve problems with friendships
• helping with playground incidents
• problems with managing emotions
• problems in the family
• helping to cope with emotional situations including sadness, anger and fear.

Meng is available at South Perth Primary School three days per week.  To arrange a time to speak with her you may catch her in the playground, speak to  your teacher, the Principal or one of the Deputy Principals or contact the school office.

Unwell at School

When students are unwell in class or in the playground, the teacher will make an assessment and if required send them, with the relevant note, to the school office.  If appropriate, the office will contact the parent/guardian and discuss whether the student needs to go home or can return to class.

School staff may administer medications on a short term basis only once parents/guardians have completed an Administration of Medication form.  Medications required on a long term basis form part of a Student Health Care Plan.  Forms and further details are available from the school office.

School Dentist Service

The School Dental Service is limited to general practice care and there are a number of exclusions, e.g. specialist services and general anaesthesia facilities.  South Perth Primary students are referred to:

Contact the practice directly to register and make an appointment.  The school distributes registration forms at the start of each school year and each term to new students. Consent of a parent or guardian is a lawful requirement before a child can be treated. It is not required for an examination.

School Psychologist

School psychology services are provided one day per week. Referrals to the School Psychologist are made by the classroom teacher in consultation with the Deputy Principal –  SAER (Students at Educational Risk) Coordinator. The School Psychologist seeks informed parental consent before working with students.
